Virtual drive uses "software" to make it look like the drive is really
connected.

Two types of virtual drive arre normally used:

1) RAID -- used to create a huge hard drive (using odd number of drives,
greater than 2) or mirrored hard drives

2) Virtual CD Rom drive -- no need to carry the CD Rom drive with your
laptop
NOTE: Most newer software
(especially games) will not allow you to install it onto a PC that has a
virtual CD Rom
drive (Half-Life 2
and/or DOOM 3)
