Hi All,

Could anyone tell me where I can find a BIOS upgrade for my system please?
I'm trying to install a new Maxtor 60GB HDD and my PC hangs at the BIOS HDD
detection stage. I presume I need an updated BIOS. I used AMI website to
detect my motherboard details and was directed to esupport.com where I
reluctantly paid $24.95 for them to email an upgrade. However, after filling
all my credit card details and hitting the 'accept' button I find that
they're not at home until Monday bloody morning!!

If anyone can help I will try and cancel my order and gladly PayPal them the
money instead.

Motherboard and BIOS details below.

Many thanks,

Karl.

The BIOS for your mobo is at:

http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/bios/bos/spt_bos_detail.php?UID=250&kind=1

The latest version is only 1.1 though so you probably have other issues. Do
you really want to stick with a board that old?

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the reply and sorry for my late response. I actually found that
link on Friday and tried installing it but it didn't seem to work. I went
through the instructions and all seemed to go well and I got the 'Updated
Successfully' message at the end but my BIOS date still reads 07/15/95.

Unfortunately I made the fatal mistake of 'promising' a friend I could
update their PC 'no problem at all' for 30 quid. I hadn't realised there'd
be issues with the HDD being unrecognisable. I also said it would only take
a couple of hours to do it :)

I'm still awaiting the promised link I bought from www.esupport.com. They
guarantee 100% success so I'll wait and see.

Many thanks again for your help.

Karl.

I would suspect that the board/BIOS is too old to support a drive of that size.
Your only fix is to use a drive overlay program (are these still available?) or
jumper the drive to clip the capacity to 32Gig. Even that may not work as the
board may be limited to an 8 Gig drive or smaller...

Thanks Nick,

My update finally arrived as promised and the install went fine. Excellent
results too. My BIOS is now dated June 2004 and all 60GB are recognised.

The board is a dinosaur but belongs to a friend and they're now happy that
the PC is back up and running with a lot more HDD space.

Thanks again for both your input.

Regards,

Karl.
