Help for Refresh Rate for moniter

I just finished reading CRT Guide - A THG Primer
and I dont know if my moniter is set at a refresh rate of 85Hz and i dont know how to set it to a refresh rate of 85Hz

can anyone help?

Your monitor itself should have function buttons that allow you to check its refresh rate status. You can set refresh rate in the Advanced Properties of the Display settings (in Control Panel). A good program to do this with that you might want to check out is PowerStrip.

thanks arrow, your reply more then what i wanted and thats great. I found out my moniters refresh rate is 37.9Hz/60Hz

i guess 60Hz is the max i can set it to, so i guess im gonna go and set it to 60Hz.
My moniter is about 4-5years old i would guess and its a sony 15inch.

WOuld you think it would be wise to set it to 60Hz or if i could to 80hz?

Dude, 60Hz really kills your eyes. Up teh resfresh rate- force the monitor. Which monitor u have? I have an old Sony Multiscan 100sx, and that does 85Hz at 800x600. Force it if necessary, or get a new monitor.

how were you able to make it up 85Hz?

right now mine is a sony cpd-120vs
and i dont know if it does...hm at first i always thought the faster the refresh rate it would ruin ur wyws instead..but guess not.

i've been using this moniter for liek 4yrs and playing games..that could explain the sore eyes after a bit

but can u share how u did this?
i have a nvidia geforce2mx btw..if that could help

I'm not sure of the specifics of your monitor, but Powerstrip is one of those programs that will let you specify what refresh rates to "force" your monitor and video card into. Usually the standard Windows settings will only show what they it knows for sure is safe.

The higher the refresh rate, the faster your screen is refreshed, or "redrawn". A higher refresh rate means that the screen is "redrawn" more times in a certain amount of time, leaving it with less flicker and making it easier on the eyes.

Be sure that when you do try to force your monitor into refresh rates that you're not sure if it'll support, include the option of having it return to a usable refresh rate if you don't press anything in a certain amount of time.

That Trinitron AGP monitor will support 1024x768x32@85Hz. My guess is that you are using a preset that runs at 60Hz, or that you have the monitor identified as just a standard display, using the default Windows driver. I would suggest that you "up" the monitor resolution to the manufacture's recommended setting and then choose the higher refresh rate.

You might also wish to download and install the .INF file for the monitor, and then use Add/Remove Hardware to choose your display. In other words ... install the monitor driver. This should allow you to select the resolutions and refresh rates that are supported by the unit.

I wouldn't run that monitor at any less than 800x600x32@75Hz if you want your eyes to stop hurting!
