On Monday, I was installing a PC game and was having some problems. I went to
the game's troubleshooting site and it said to run a selective startup. So I
ran the selective startup but it didn't help. When I ran a normal startup
again, my CD drive had an error that reads "Windows successfully loaded the
device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code
41)". I thought that the drive was defective, so I got a new drive, but when
I loaded the new one, it had the same error. I have tried everything to get
this to work and I am running out of options. Please, please help me.

Use the Windows Device Manager and 'uninstall' or 'remove' the CD.

Reboot the PC and Windows will 'find' it again and install what we hope will
be the correct drivers.

I just tried that and it didn't help. The same error came up after
reinstalling the drivers. I think the problem is related to the selective
startup because the problem began after running a selective startup.
