SATA HD recognized by MB (K8T Neo) but not by WinXP

Got myself a SATA Harddisk today (200GB Maxtor).
Installed it into the computer, followed the steps (installing drivers
etc...) from the manual but WinXP doesn't show the drive in Windows
Explorer.

It shows up on boot in the BIOS
It shows up in the Device Manager under Windows XP.

But it doesn't show up in Explorer. I guess it must be formatted first (like
IDE drives) but how do i do that since it's not listed as drive in Explorer?
