I'm getting a BSOD with Scsiport.sys PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA. The Stop
message is 0x00000050 (oxf787f000, 0x00000000, 0xf787efff, 0x00000000)

Scsiport.sys - address f787efff base at f786a000, datestamp 41107b4b.

This all started after 2 months of having SP2. I have been using a CD
emulator program that ran fine until I installed a new version of ATI MMC. I
had a problem starting the emulator after that so I un-installed it and
re-installed but when it started to install the SCSI driver I get the BSOD.
This happens with any SCSI driver I try to install. I found a page in the
Microsoft knowledge base that said there was a hotfix for this problem, but I
need to contac the support line for it. Unfortunately I can't get on to the
site without paying for it and this is really Microsoft's problem. Is there
any other thing I can try that anyone knows about?

Thanks Jer.

Hello, Jer & all!...........

Jer, I've recently run into the same problem when running setup (XP
Pro, full install/clean disk) and have had one hell of a time since then, as
far as tackling funky errors (some of my own) such as
SCSIPORT.SYS......error.

I am not an "expert" by any means, but I truly DO love
building/breaking/configuring/reconfiguring/(DIS)-configuring!?)......pc's
and have yet to have been enrolled in any sort of PC class(es), just have
always (almost always) figured it out myself. Whether it takes an hour, or a
week, for that ever-dimming light bulb to illuminate above what's left of my
Grey Matter telling me, "I've got it!".....

Anyhow, I am running (laugh here_______) a P-3@450 Mhz., ABIT BE6
mainboard, 384 MB PC-100 SDRAM, Western DIgital 13.6 GB EIDE, ATA/66 capable,
with Highpoint Technologies HPT366 SCSI Controller (built into Mobo) that
runs on IDE's 3 & 4, which (when working properly) run at ATA/66
speeds/modes. IDE's 1 & 2 run at ATA/33 and are never the problem. (HPT366
controllers have had a long history of tricky problems). In a nutshell, I
ended up "dumbing-down" my system, NOT attaching anything to IDE's 3 & 4,
switching HD cable back to regular 40-pin/40-wire attached to IDE 1 (or 2),
and installing XP in this "dumbed-down" configuration in order to "sneak"
SCSI items past XP setup, NOT the "F6" option to install SCSI drivers or in
any other way or hint throughout XP startup until OS finally installed. After
OS install, I changed back to IDE 3/4 with ATA/66 40-pin 80-wire ribbon cable
connected as it should be, with proper (and NEVER properly explained by ABIT,
Highpoint, or anyone/anything I've ever ran across) as to correct BIOS
settings for proper bootup/enabling the "IDE running as SCSI on HPT366 SCSI
Controller" EXCEPT for a sentence or two I spotted in my ABIT BE6 manual
regarding HPT366 driver installation under Windows NT, sadly discovering that
this machine has NEVER run in ATA/66 since the day I built it. I changed BIOS
settings, and drive ran right at around 60 MB/s soon as I changed settings.
This was both disappointing AND made me quite happy at the sane time.

Well, that lasted almost a month. And now, SOMEHOW, IDE/ATA/SCSI/HPT366
is up to it's old trix again, as I am running at about 10 MB/s....YES,
10........when connected to HPT's IDE's 3 or 4, highest supported mode is
PIO4 as reported in System Info., and AIDA 32, same HD tests used when read
as ATA/66 mode and 60+ MB/s buffered read speeds. Guess what I'm saying is,
try and run setup/install like I had to, not even hinting anything SCSI-type
installing along with XP setup. Then, AFTER XP installs correctly and used OS
& rebooted a few times, shutdown machine, change to correct cabling for HD,
correct IDE channel, correct BIOS setttings, and finally install SCSI drivers
in Device Manager, say a prayer, cross your fingers, all that and reboot.
Hopefully rebooting into correct and fastest mode settings for your crazy
SCSI devices. Sorry to be so long-winded, but I guess I am hoping my earlier
problems will help you, in-turn helping me, and saving what little sanity I
may have left. Anxious to hear from you what may or may-not have solved
your/our "gifted" hardware assemblies. (I am re-formatting/re-partitioning
re-installing XP in the next hour)- unless the SCSI Fairy comes along my way
sprinkling that magic SCSI-dust on my vintage '98 poor-Man's machine.

(And yes, I WOULD like a little cheese with my whine, thank you).

Hi,

Thanks for your quick reply. I actually found the correct link to talk to a
tech at Microsoft about SP2. There is indeed a hotfix which they sent to me.
I installed it and my system is now working 100%. All my SCSI drivers install
and run correctly. I too have spent many hours in front of a re-booting
machine trouble-shooting so I can appreciate how much work you've had to do
to work around your problem. Maybe this info could help you as well.

Thanks again,

Jer.
