strange things happen when i booted my computer this morning. Im using windows 98se, by the way.
while about to boot boot into windows, still in dos type of thing, it comes up saying that "one or more of my drives may have errors... blah blah" usual thing that happens when your machine freezes and you dont shutdown or restart windows the way its supposed to be done.
anywho then it tells me to press any key to continue with scandisk, but then it says that it cant load scandisk, and that it might not be there, or might have been cancelled, but it wasnt cancelled, and it is there.
one of the times that i reboote, it gave me some error about not being able to write to system.ini and that i have virus checking in my bios, but i doesnt make a difference.
ive tried restarting normally, and shutting down, and it makes no differnece.
any ideas?

If memory serves, scandisk won't run if himem.sys isn't loaded.

I think you may have a corrupt config.sys file.

It should look something like the following...

DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE
device=C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\display.sys con=(ega,,1)
Country=044,850,C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\country.sys
