using xp home with sp2, laptop battery will not charge, any ideas or has
anyone had same problem

Hmm, charger is bad, battery is bad, other than that, you issue has nothing
to do with the operating system.

The battery charger has nothing to do with the Operating System.

Might not be Windows problem and could be pure hardware problem.

Suggest you to contact hardware mfg. as well and ask them how to ID if it's
battery problem.
