I dug this out of mothballs to fix up a pc for a kid. I put a new cmos
battery on it because the original one had gone dead. This damn thing is
hard to get to boot. It intermittly goes straight to all red d-led. So I
cycle the psu and hit the power button again and sometimes it boots. I
tried another psu, updating to the latest 2.8 bios. Nothing has helped.
Anybody heard of this problem?

Thanks

Well, I think I got it fingered out. It seems the damn msi board does not
like my old ti4200. I tried the onboard and it boots every time. So I
popped in my even older GF3 ti200 and it still boots every time. This
ti4200 works perfectly in my Epox 8RDA+ and an old Abit BH6 so why doesn't
the MSI junk work with it?

possibilty that it is drawing more power and the PSU isn't up to snuff to
power it??

You would think that but I tried two PSUs, a 400 watt and a 450. The 400 is
an Allied with dual fans and has run systems that demanded much more power
than this bare bones MSI setup. I think the AGP slot is weak.

Some boards will only accept newer 1.5v AGP cards, not the older 3v.
Might this be the problem?

Good thinking but no, the ti4200 is 1.5 volt compatible. The whole thing
is over and done with now. I gave it to my friends kid already with the
even older Geforce 3 card in it. It works flawless with it. The ti4200 is
back in the Abit BH6 and working as good as ever. I just think something
about the agp slot on the MSI has deteriorated. This same ti4200 used to
work in the thing.
