My motherboard (uses AMIBIOS) the onboard IDE channels are enabled/disabled
on the Integrated Peripherals page under the heading OnboardIDE. The
options are: Disabled, Primary, Secondary, Both. You want to select "Both".
Your motherboard manual will have the information required.
Typical configuration is as follows (others may disagree):
IDE Primary (Master) - Hdd with O/S on it
IDE Primary (Slave) - Hdd for data, programs, backups, etc. (may or may not
be present)
IDE Secondary (Master) - Optical Drive CDrom, DVDRom, (or CD-RW, DVD+/-RW)
IDE Secondary (Slave) - Optical Drive CD-RW, DVD+/-RW
Your new hdd literature(manual) should have a pictoral view of the above.
