Does it matter if my CD-ROM is plugged into IDE1 or IDE2 or IDE3? For some
reason i can only detect my hard drives in BIOS CMOS Setup Utility and as
long as they are plugged in IDE1. But if they are plugged into IDE2 or IDE3
they arent detected in CMOS Setup Utility. Now the problem is, that WIN98
isn't showing that I have a D: anymore since I unplugged it and put it in
IDE2. Can anyone help. Thanks.

If your dual booting Win98 and WinXp Upgrade (using the Win98 cdrom for
verification??), you may want to check the EULA.

I have never seen a motherboard with 3 IDE channels - although my experience
is very, very limited. Are both IDE channels enabled in BIOS?

I'm not dual booting. I'm having a hard time getting my computer to detect
my HD so I switched the CD-ROM to IDE2 and my HD's to IDE1. Well my computer
detects the HD's now but not the CD-ROM. How do i check to enable IDEs in
BIOS?

My motherboard (uses AMIBIOS) the onboard IDE channels are enabled/disabled
on the Integrated Peripherals page under the heading OnboardIDE. The
options are: Disabled, Primary, Secondary, Both. You want to select "Both".
Your motherboard manual will have the information required.

Typical configuration is as follows (others may disagree):
IDE Primary (Master) - Hdd with O/S on it
IDE Primary (Slave) - Hdd for data, programs, backups, etc. (may or may not
be present)
IDE Secondary (Master) - Optical Drive CDrom, DVDRom, (or CD-RW, DVD+/-RW)
IDE Secondary (Slave) - Optical Drive CD-RW, DVD+/-RW

Your new hdd literature(manual) should have a pictoral view of the above.

Yes. Well im pretty sure. By jumpers you mean Master/Slave? The only
jumpers i set were on my First HD i set as Master with the little plastic
thing. My second hd if you want it set as slave you take the little plastic
thing completely out. Thats the only jumpers i set.

"little plastic thing" = Bottleneck Jumper :)

If you look at it closely the metal inside the plastic shorts out (or
jumpers) the two pins it fits over on the back of the hdd.
