I've seen this already. It makes me think of Sod, if Sod was an assemblyman. Probably had his ass handed to him in a flame war over politics or something and is now all righteously enraged over this grave transgression upon his person.

Stupid idiots are bad enough, but when they get elected...

I'm thinking of starting a site with a directory of all the morons in governments of all over the world, by country, and why this is so. I am, of course, too lazy to ever do anything. (I also have a feeling that it would be a very, very, very, very, very long list.)

I found this link when I followed your link and started snooping around. And yes there are many many many idiots in positions of power.

of course this guy is so stupid that he doesn't realize people are laughing at him for proposing such a lame law.

there is the issue of free speech to consider. Courts have ruled that anonymous posters to forums and online discussion boards have a reasonable expectation of anonymity. If the forum avatar could be pulled aside at will to reveal the identity of a poster at any time, it would have a chilling effect on free speech on the Internet. While those decisions could certainly be overturned via a number of avenues, the precedent has been set, and any legislation limiting anonymity would certainly face a legal challenge on established grounds.

"A person who signs onto an anonymous forum under a pseudonym...is surely entitled to a reasonable expectation that his speech...will not be accessible to the Government...absent appropriate legal process. To hold otherwise would ignore the role of the internet as a remarkably powerful forum for private communication and association. Even the Government concedes that the internet is an 'important vehicle for the free exchange of ideas and facilitates associations.'"

Seems to me that only idiots are attracted to positions of power. Your average, intelligent man is content with living his life as he sees fit. Only morons try to control everyone else.

...............Do I detect angry overtones.....?

I didn't say all people in powerful positions are dumb as a rock ...... only a lot of them.

............................ These periods before my comments don't bother you do they?
I was told that they bother some people.

Reply to russell

The anger isn't directed towards you. I agree that there are way too many idiots in power. No, your ................. doesn't bother me.

Yea...kind of like your Uncle Charlie...

This is madness.

There was an Senator/arsehole in Pennsylvania who was trying to introduce federal legislation banning GOVERNMENT run or funded weather websites (like noaa.gov) from giving out things like forecasts and current weather conditions.

Slashdot did an excellent job of noting that some of his political donors just happened to be weather websites that are "for profit." Like this one:

www.premiumweather.com

Ahh... the US government at its finest!

At best chances are (which I have not yet statistically analyzed) that the ratio of idiots in power vs non-idiots in power, is the same as in populations that are not in power. At worst the ratio of idiots in the not powerful population is a lot bigger.

Yes, I suspect so too. Eltism is alive and well throughout all societies.

Engel and then Marx spoke at length about this, yada, yada...

Look at George W Bush - not the brightest button in the sewing kit but extremely powerful nonetheless.

Part of the problem is that a lot of, most one might argue, 'good' people would never be interested in a political career in the first place. They've got, you know, things to do. Families to raise, people to help, industries to build...the type of person I would want in a government position doesn't have the time nor will to deal with all the bullshit that goes with politics.

Maybe a conscripted civil service is an answer: the people right for the job are forced into it...

Forced labor? Never work.

"Hey dude, better dumb down afore they go and make you president."

Excellent point. Look at the average pay for politicians. Its horrendous.

The average middle-manager in a liberal democracy that ascribes to free market principles can score better dosh than the average polly in the same country.

There is an overriding apathy/ignorance associated with politics too. "Politicians, there all scum", and the like, etc..

Last month Playboy (will I get banned for saying Playboy?) had a great short feature on some of the political types that don't necessarily follow their party lines. One was our IL rep, Barak Obama. It was called "The No BS Caucus" or something along those lines. It pretty much said that the 7 or 8 or so people they picked were trying to do things right, less corruption, more of a open mind.

Just thinking back to an odd moment some time ago that I didnt comment on:

Was Piddy the chap who commented on you being "the guy who identifies with Mcdonalds sandwiches"?

For some reason I just did a LOL! and thought of that moment. From memory, it was a half-serious conversation I believe.

Its funny how odd moments come back down the road.

I have no idea, apparently the intended insult didn't quite have the impact on me that makes me remember.

I'm still deeply offended by it though.........HAHAhahahahaha :P

Some people just can't take a joke now can they?

You're awfully defensive of your sexuality. What's the matter? Feeling a bit insecure?
