I built a PC for my mother using the MN31N (Win XP-Pro), because it
was fairly cheap and she didn't need an overclocking monster. It's
been a disaster however. I couldn't get the audio to work (everything
looked ok, it just wouldn't play) and finally installed a sound card.
That worked fine.
Then she started having many random crashes (XP has detected a serious
error...). Plus, Nero will almost never burn a CD correctly. I updated
to the latest Shuttle drivers and it got a bit better in terms of
crashing but still can't burn the discs.
I downloaded the latest drivers from nVidia and mailed them to her
because she is on dial-up. She should get them in a day or so.
The reboots indicate to me something more in the nature of hardware
than software, particularly as often as it is occuring. I'm guessing
that the 350? PSU that came with the case just isn't enough, not that
there is so much running inside (2400). She's a few thousand miles
away and I can't talk here through changing that. But I'll handle that
somehow. Maybe even visit.
Anyway, the nVidia drivers appear more recent than the Shuttle ones.
Is there a reasonable hope that they will fix the apparent IDE problem
causing the burn failures? Does anyone know any issues with this board
or drivers that could explain the various problems?
