Hey!

We have a 4-Port Cable Gateway Router here at home and unfortunately I forgot the password one needs to access the configuration interface. Does anybody have an idea how I could either reset the router so that there is no password set or how I could find out which password I used?

Reset to defaults. Your manual should tell you how.

Well, the manual says I have to press the reset button for 5s and then the power light would start flashin. But it doesn't really work. I tried it several times otherwhiles I wouldn't have asked here...

are you sure your hitting the button ard enough. Sometime those buttons can be a real pain.

it would be helpful if you put in the model number of the router here so we can search for info on it.
When you press the reset switch for 5 seconds does the power light blink? if it does then the reset worked and it probably reset the password to the default password which for some routers is the word admin.
If you have what they are selling on their website at this time and not an older version the docs say that the factory default is the username of Admin with no password. Try that.
