Hello,
I have been runnning my SB81P for a wwek now, with no problems.
Then, using SiSoft Sandra 2005, i see the following:
Relevant lines marked with >>>

>>> Auto Fan Speed Control : No

>>> Warning 216 : CPU fan has failed! Check it.

CPU-Temp is at 55C, so cooling is taking place.
I do feel that the fan is noisy, doesn't seem to alter speed, running at
the same RPM all the time,

Any good advice out there?

Greetings from Nils Langeland

Does your SB81P has the most recent BIOS? Shuttle has made some changes
in the thermal config lately...

Thanks Evert.
Do you have a straight-forward procedure for flashing the BIOS?
I only find a .bin file on SHUTTLE, but that's not enough for flashing

Why not do it the east way and use Winflash to flash from Windoze? Then
all you need is that .bin file...

Hello, again,
I upgraded the BIOS using WinFlash, went like a breeze, but Sandra still
reports the same thing about fan-failure.
CPU-temperature is on a steady 55.

Are there any settings in the BIOS-setup that would need checking?
Oddly, I'm not able to get the "Num-Lock on at startup" to work, either.
Cheers Nils

I'll check out Sandra when I get home, and see what it reports on my
SB81P...

Hmm, Sandra reports that the CPI-fan of my SB81P isn't working either,
but I know it is. Looks like Sandra isn't reporting the truth here. If
you have a spare minute, you might wanna report it to them...

Regards,
Evert

Here's the answer from SiSoft Sandra. Now, I don't know how to detect which
fans are reported as what. Anyone out there able to help?

Answer fron SiSoftSandra Support:

There is no way to know in software which fan is which, which temperature is
which and so on; the program assumes the implementation guidelines of the
specific hardware monitor device are followed by the manufacturer.

You cannot compare the customised version of the monitoring application
supplied with the board (they make it so they should know which is which)
with a generic program like Sandra that runs on thousands of different
boards. This affects other such utilities that generally ask you to tell
them which sensor is which - Sandra attempts to do this automatically.

The Sandra database already contains a patch table for around 700 mainboards
that are non-confirmant and need to be patched; naturally we cannot buy and
test each and every board on the market. If you send us a copy of the output
of "Mainboard Info" and tell us which fans/temperature/voltage sensors are
which we will add it to the patch table.

Thank you.

Subject: Query

Hello,

I have been runnning my SHUTTLE SB81P for a week now, with no problems.

Then, using SiSoft Sandra 2005, I see the following: Relevant lines marked

with >>>

>>> Auto Fan Speed Control : No

>>> Warning 216 : CPU fan has failed! Check it.

CPU-Temp is at 55C, so cooling is taking place.

I do feel that the fan is noisy, doesn't seem to alter speed, running at

the same RPM all the time,

Is there a bug in the program, so that it gives these messages? The CPUfan

IS running, and doing its job CPUtemperature is at 55C

Greetings from Nils Langeland
