Go figure! I thought installing a floppy drive was the simplest of
hardware tasks.

OS: Win XP Home
Model: Dell Dimension 3000
Floppy: Samsung SFD-321B

Symptom is the floppy shows up in system/hardware window, but not in "My
Computer".

1. I enabled floppy in BIOS.
2. Connected power and bus.
3. Status in system/hardware shows good.

Why does the drive not show up in the File System?

Right click on My Computer and select Manage. On the following screen,
click on Disk Management.

Does it show up on the right hand side of the screen?

I wanted to add a postscript. The floppy drive did finally install
correctly. What happened?

When I plugged in the USB floppy, it greased the skids and the internal
floppy appeared in "My Computer". I decided to keep the USB floppy since
I had already pulled the internal floppy.

Some Operating Systems need a good swift kick in the ...
