I posess the Dragon SY-KT333 Ultra mainboard presently equipped with
an Athlon 1700+ Palomino core.
If I understand the information supplied on the Soyo website
correctly, the board should support Athlon CPUs up to and including a
2600+ Thoroughbred (TB) with 266Mhz FSB.

I have by now tried two different Athlon 2400+ TB with a FSB of 266Mhz
(that's the letter C at the end of the serial of the CPU, according to
the support page) but the mainboard won't detect the CPU at all,
meaning the screen remains black and no beeps or anything else happens
(I've waited more than 5 minutes staring at the screen).

I've...
1. installed the newest BIOS (Bios Revision 2AA9),
2. set the BIOS (yes, after installing the old CPU again) to
"failsafe", and
3. replaced the first CPU by another one...
but still it won't be detected :( .

Since the screen remains black, I have to assume that either the CPU
is broke (then both would have been) or something is wrong with the
mainboard. What troubles me is the fact that with my 1700+ installed
everything works perfect, no probs at all.

Does any of you guys have an idea what else I can try before
surrendering and sending the CPU back to my reseller?
Or has anyone of you encountered (and hopefuly fixed) the same problem
when upgrading to a TB CPU and now knows exactly what I have to do in
order to make the bloody CPU work, or did I simply misunderstand the
information on the Soyo website and this board won't ever support such
a CPU??

thanks in advance and best regards,
Jens Fricke

A bunch of people have posted here who had KT333 Dragon Ultras and
with no problem using the 2400+ TB. I suggest you give full system
specs.
(me, I suspect you may have an inadequate power supply. The 2400+
uses a fair bit more power than the 1700+)
