hi all
i would like buy a maxtor 40 gb (diamond plus series)hard disk for my
old board soyo 5EHM to replace my old hd
i am using last bios 5EH1DA1.BIN 2000-06-05.
can I encounter some problems with this upgrade?

not a Maxtor, blah; get a Seagate or Hitachi. Best thing for you
is a promise controller card, much better performance than what the
motherboard can do and can use up to 128 GB drive ; check ebay for
ultra100 ~

Probably. That Mobo will most likely support a hard drive of up to 8.4gb
using the onboard BIOS, and/or up to a 30gb if you use a "maxblast 3" or
similar setup disk.

ps: you can get a Promise Tx2 IDE card off Ebay for about $10-$15 delivered,
and use up to 160gb HDD's >and< gain the ATA-100 speed....

Per the Soyo support article #S1027, the 5EHM will support up to an
80G drive.

I have the Soyo 5-EHM and two Maxtor Diamond Plus harddisks 80Gb
7200rtm. I have the same bios. No problems!
