I bought a "bare bones" computer package which consisted of a Soyo
motherboard, a Soyo case, and a power supply. The motherboard was
suppose to be the Soyo SY-P4I845PE which supposedly can operate at 800
MHz FSB.

I received no box with the motherboard because it was already
installed
in a Soyo case. The package was listed as a SY-A22BO. There is a
sticker on that
large box that may contain the serial number of the motherboard:
CX-Y259ROEA,
and KE03082993. Although the cover of the quick start guide is titled
"SY-P4I845PE", the second page shows "P4I845PE Serial - Version 1.1 -
Version: January 2003". The manual contains instructions for 533 and
400 MHz FSB support only.

1) How do I know that the motherboard I received is the SY-P4I845E
V1.0 and not the SY-P4I 845E?

2) How do I configure this motherboard to operate with an 800 MHz FSB
processor? There is nothing in the instructions.

3) Does this motherboard support or require 400 MHz RAM to efficiently
operate at 800 FSB?

Thanks!

4) What do I gain by using a 800 MHz FSB processor, if I cannot run
400 MHz RAM?

Look at the motherboard, between the PCI slots it will have the motherboard
model printed in white. To use the 800 Mhz cpu it must stay SY-P4I 845PE
V1.0 if it doesn't have the V1.0 it won't support the 800 Mhz cpu.

If it does list the correct model then go into the BIOS and under the SOYO
COMBO Features set CPU Clock to Auto, if it doesn't detect your cpu as 200
MHz in the Frequency 1Mhz Stepping entry. If it doens't show your cpu as 200
MHz by using the Auto setting in CPU Clock change it to Manual and then
enter 200 MHz in the Frequency 1MHz setting area. Your 800 MHz P-4 needs to
be set at 200 MHz (200 x 4 = 800).

Under AGP/PCI Clock Settings make sure its set to 66/33 MHz fix.

No you do not need 400 MHz memory with this board. It only uses PC2100 and
PC2700 memory (266MHz and 333Mhz) you can run 400 MHz (PC3200) memory in the
board it will give you a little extra headroom but it's not required.

Thats all it should take
