I don't have this problem with the keyboard in Windows 98 or 2000, but
in Windows XP (Pro), every so often the driver for the Microsoft
Internet Keyboard (this one here...
http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mouseandkeyboard/productdetails.aspx?pid=021
) fails to load. I can tell when this happens because the num-lock key
doesn't light up. (I have the numlock key activated on my user account,
not globally.) Mousing over to the Device Manager will always confirm
this, with the entry under Keyboard marked with the yellow exclamation
point (!) sticker. Now, simply uninstalling the driver and having
Windows redetected it will bring the keyboard back to life, but this
gets annoyings after a while (especially after having to dismiss the
"Please Reboot" dialog without rebooting, because sometime after
rebooting, the keyboard dies again!) Is there something I can do to
keep this from happening again?
I'm using the keyboard driver that originally came on the disc with the
keyboard. According to Windows, the driver version is 2.20.447.0 dated
3/21/2002. The driver is named "Microsoft PS/2 Keyboard(IntelliType
Pro)".
