Hi Guys,

I upgraded an old computer from Win98 to XP Pro. I am trying to convert the
File System from FAT32 to NTFS (using Partition Magic) but it doesn't work.
The conversion is running, and running, and running....
When the computer finally boot up again the system file is still FAT32.

Any idea what's happening?

Thanks.

Which version of PM? Why not use the program provided in XP
to accomplish same?

I tried the XP program as well but it doesn't work for some reason.I run
CHKDSK and CHKDSK /F, it did find some problems which it fixed (that's what
it says anyway)....

You can do it much more easily than using PM...

Start > Run > Type "cmd" without the quotes > hit enter > type "c:\> convert
c: /fs:ntfs" without the quotes > hit enter > reboot. You shouldn't lose any
data but be sure to back up your data anyhow just in case. (Switch c: to the
drive letter if it's not c: that you're converting.)

Click Start, Help and Support, type Convert in the search box and read all
about it.

You are starving your assistance for facts. For example, if
XP's CHKDSK found errors, then what specifically were those
errors - especially any numbers in that error message? Were
you executing XP (NT's) CHKDSK, or did you execute Windows 98
CHKDSK? If CONVERT did not work, then what specifically did
it report? What specifically did you enter on the CONVERT
command line for options? Did you verify (using Task Manager)
that no other Applications (programs) were executing?

I assume this was Windows 98 SE; not just Windows. Was the
disk using one of those BOIS extenders such as from MicroHouse
or On-Tracks using names such as EZ-Drive or EZ-BIOS or
MaxBlast? Just a few of so many questions that might cause
complications.
