For best results you want all your memory to be of the same type. You
can mix PC2100 and PC2700 but all the memory is going to run at the
slowest memory speed.

The same holds true for memory brands, do to the different memory
timings and in some cases even different layouts, you should stick with
the same size and brand.

So if you want 1Gig of memory buy two 512mb dimms from the same company
for the best results.
