What kind of encryption does the fingerprint reader use?

Another point I would like to add : Why does the fingerprint reader does not
(for the windows logon) work when your PC is in a domain?

Thanks

JP

Who makes your fingerprint reader???
I know it is not part of XP so the best people to ask are the people who
make it!!

I don't know nor have I been able to find the answers you seek.

FWIW however, your questions would seem to indicate that you are concerned
about the security of the Microsoft Fingerprint Reader/Digital Persona
software.

You should realize that it is *not* a security device. It's intended for
convenience in logging into Windows (non domain where security could
potentially be more of an issue) and password protected Websites.

You'll find disclaimers like the ones here;
http://www.digitalpersona.com/consumer/msFingRead.html
"Microsoft® Finger Reader should not be used for protecting sensitive data
like financial information or for accessing corporate networks."

and

http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mouseandkeyboard/features/fingerprint.mspx
"The Fingerprint Reader should not be used for protecting sensitive data
such as financial information or for accessing corporate networks. We
continue to recommend that you use a strong password for these types of
activities."

Similar disclaimers are on the product documentation and in it's help files.

In other words it's a fun toy, good for the geek factor. I like mine. :)

If you'd like to try contacting the software manufacturer.

Found the answer to your second question. The Digital Persona software that
the reader uses relies on the fast user switching functionality which is
disabled in domain members
