Hi All,

We have a problem with a USB scanner (Fujitsu fi4120c2) where by if you
install it, it works fine but if you change the USB port it is plugged in to
it gets renamed to something like Fujitsu-fi4120c2 #2.

This is not a problem as the scanner still works but the issue is we have to
go in to our software and change the TWAIN source name all the time otherwise
it doesnt work and there are a lot of places it needs changing!!!

Is there a registry key that will force windows XP SP2 to keep the same name
regardless of what USB port it is plugged in to?

NO! This is the case with every USB device that you install. Each USB port
has its own configuration "thread" and whenever an USB device is connected,
it "emunerate" onto the USB port.

This is a known "feature" of Windows. Unless the device contains an unique ID string
(aka "USB serial number") Windows can't tell that it is same device in a different usb port.
Fujitsu just slashed few cents on manufacturing by not providing this ID.
