Check the jumpers on the drive properly and that both the power connector
and the ribbon connector is properly seated. If it is a SATA drive check the
SATA connection and make sure you have loaded the SATA drivers for the
motherboard.

You should see the drive in the computer manager but it will need to be
partitioned and formatted before it can be used.

Hi, Amanda.

You said that you "checked both device manager and computer manager", but
you did not actually mention Disk Management - and that is the proper tool
to use for creating one or more partitions on a hard drive - and for
formatting them and assigning "drive" letters. Maybe that's what you meant,
but we need to be sure.

What does Disk Management say about that HD? Maximize the window to get a
good look at all the info that is shown there. And check the Help file for
plenty of details about installing and managing hard drives. Note, too,
that Disk Management handles other kinds of devices, such as CD/DVD drives,
USB "flash" drives, and even camera card readers - just about anything that
can be assigned a "drive" letter.

If the jumpers and cables are correct, then DIsk Management should show the
HD, probably as "Disk 1" (since your original HD is Disk 0"). If you
right-click on the Disk icon in the Graphical View, the context menu should
have an option to create partitions on the HD. After you create one or more
partitions, the context menu will offer to Format them for you and assign a
"drive" letter to each primary partition and each logical drive in an
extended partition.

Note that My Computer cannot show an unformatted HD; at least one partition
must be created and assigned a letter before My Computer or Windows Explorer
can show it.

Do you have the drive jumpered correctly, slave or cable select? In the
case of cable select, is it connected to the correct connector on the ide
cable? You can google "installing a 2nd hard drive" and read all about it.

Did you enter cmos setup from boot and try to auto detect the drive? I
have to do this on mine. Even though it says ide auto detect, some have
to enter it before it detects it. Me for example. And my son's pc.

Exactly what I was going to say R.C.White.
I have a Raid 0 configuration and I also brought an extra 120 gb drive for
back up. Wasn't recognized until I went to disk management and assigned the
drive + formatted.
