I use to have the Gphone service but it looks like they dropped out.
So who else is good out there.
I called vonage but there where not to sure on how to configure their to
work with a pocket pc.
So I guess is stickly for home use at least for now,

I've been using vonage's softphone on my ppc for almost a year now and it's
working great. You do have to have service with them to get the softphone
account but it can be done. Skype is another way to do things or you could
go the route of free world dialup. I have vonage, free world dialup and
stanaphone all programmed into xten's xpro and it works great.

I guess vonage is worth the try...because I'm hoping no contracts; with
unlimited talk-time, for a flat rate right?
I would probably try to set up an account with them and if it works well,
then I'll switch over my phone number to them.
So you say it works with pocket, am I so glad to hear that.
But I had spoken with one of their custoner service agents and he told me
that he never heard of such.
and it would only work with a PC for now. So he was wrong after all.
So does the soware take care of most of the configuration?

The softphone plan isn't unlimited. To protect themselves from people
giving access to family and friends vonage limited the softphone account to
500 outgoing minutes and unlimited incoming minutes. It's still not a bad
deal and I don't use the phone all that much anyhow. Of course calls to
other vonage numbers is free so if I were away n business and I needed to
call home I wouldn't have to worry about the 500 minute outgoing limit.
Also in order to signup for the softphone service you will have to have
another phone account setup with them. I have an unlimited account setup on
my home phone. Still I'm paying much less with these two lines than I ever
paid with verizon for just one line.
While vonage doesn't offer support for it, you can get the softphone working
ont he ppc. The two companies that provide softphones for vonage also have
pocketpc versions. This makes it great cause once you have the settings you
can setup the pocketpc version. The desktop versions come pre-programmed
but not the pocketpc versions. I e-mailed vonage a while ago about
softphone service on the ppc, they said it may be something they look into
in the future but at the moment they didn't have the tehnical staff availabe
to handle the calls they would get from people trying to get it working.
