I recently upgraded the BIOS on my S2720 board to 1.03 (it had 1.00
previously.) Unfortunately, now the board refuses to boot any version of
DOS that I've tried (MS-DOS 6.0, MS-DOS 6.22, PC-DOS 7.0, Win98SE, WinMe
boot disk, etc.) The board comes up to where it SHOULD load the command
interpreter, then dies with a message "Invalid COMMAND.COM Enter correct
name of Command Interpreter (eg, C:\COMMAND.COM)"

My first thought was to downgrade the BIOS back to the 1.00 version, but the
AMIFLASH program requires the system to be running in Real Mode (ie plain
DOS).

Any ideas? Tyan tech support has not responded to my email.

Thanks,

Andrew

Rootkits coming to your motherboard

Published on January 27, 2006

The recent media attention on rootkits has been focused on installed software, but according to some security professionals at the Black Hat Federal security conference, these kits could be installed on your motheboard's BIOS chip in the near future. Often running a programming language of their own, these chips store the basic command and control functions of the computer. In an article written by Robert Lemos of SecurityFocus, security researchers say that rootkits could take advantage of this language and are the "next logical step". Read more
