Dear One and All;
I am a current user of Map Point 2003 on my laptop. I would love to use the
same kind of program on my Pocket PC, but Pocket Streets only allows me the
ability to download already planned out maps. I want software that allows me
to enter data and plan maps AS I am out in my vehicle. Any advice on what is
worth the money. I don't need a GPS, just the software. Is Rand McNally any
good? How about DeLorme?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
AG

While I don't know of any software that does exactly what you need, you
can use the tracking/waypoint logs to record in the field and process on
the desktop... for example, generate a waypoint, then make notes, take a
picture or make a voice recording (all have date/time stamps) and use
the log and notes to generate the map back at base.

You might take a look at Mapopolis. I have been using it for several
years and it is very good. The Platinum maps allow you to generate
routes and directions on the PDA without a desktop and it includes a
large number of landmarks, businesses etc. along with phone numbers.

Another vote for Mapopolis here. I believe the 2 year old version I
have been using is called the "Navigator" version. I can find
addresses using the street numbers, select two of them, and it will
calculate the route and directions between them. I use it with the
Holux GPS unit (be careful if you are eventually thinking about using
it with GPS units, to make sure the GPS unit is compatible with
whatever map program you select.) Anyhow, I have been using it for 2
years, first with a 3765, and now with a 5500 series. The interface is
wonderful, and carefully thought out.
