I am doing a Windows XP Pro (32-bit) installation on a Tyan S2882
motherboard.

2x Opteron 1.8ghz procs
2gb ram
Seagate U320 ST3146807LC 146GB drive

After booting into the XP install program, I hit F6, and the adaptec
7902 driver floppy is recognized.

I load the "Adaptec Ultra320 SCSI Cards (WinXP/Server 2003 IA-32)
selection.
It appears to work saying "Setup will load support for the following
mass storage device(s):" listing the adaptec driver.

It then proceeds for a minute or two, and then gets this error message.

"Setup cannot copy the file: adpu320.sys"

I have verified the file is in the correct location on the floppy.

Has this occured to anyone else, and is there a workaround?

I noticed on Tyan's homepage that this mobo is not listed as having XP
Pro support, yet drivers are included.

The Ultra320 HostRAID drivers from Adaptec www.adaptec.com support that SCSI
chip so you could try using those. An example of a card which uses such
drivers on their website is the 39320D-R. If you use such a driver (and they
have WHQL certified ones for XP), I cant see why that would be a problem
unless Tyan have made a non-standard implementation of the chip onto their
board. Make sure you choose the driver for use without host raid enabled if
you're only going to have the one HDD (and have disabled the raid function
in the motherboards BIOS).

I was unable to get any drivers to function with this board. I obtained
an older adaptec card supported by the XP installer, and installed XP
with the drive attached to the older card. Then I removed it and hooked
the drive up to the 7902 and everything works fine.

Ugly work around, but it saved me wasting more time.

I like your crafty work-around and its great the machine is now up and
running! Did you try my suggestion of using the drivers from Adaptecs
website or did you use your workaround before you read my post? I'd be very
surprised if neither the Tyan Provided nor Adaptec Provided drivers would
correctly install during the "Press F6" part of XPs installation, especially
if you have a good floppy disk (no damaged sectors) with uncorrupted drivers
on it and the BIOS was correctly set to match the drivers (i.e. NON-RAID set
in BIOS and NON-RAID drivers). If you can rule out any of the above as being
an issue, I suggest that you report it to Tyan so they can either fix the
bug or advise further. This will mean that next time you want to
reformat/reinstall, you won't want to have to go through that again.

I have a feeling that it must have had something to do with my specific
setup. I tried the adaptec drivers as you suggested, on a couple of
floppy disks to be sure. Windows would do the same thing, load the
drivers into memory so it could copy install files over to the drive,
but then fails to find the adpu320.sys file to copy to the driver
location..which it just used to copy the XP install files over.

I have a feeling the culprit is the "Corporate" version of windows we
have at work. It's one of those with everything bundled that we are
required to install. It must not like the drivers for this specific
chipset. If I get the chance I'll find a non-tainted version of Windows
to try sometime.
