Optical Mouse quits randomly, error message in event viewer

If the port is going bad then yes, a PCI USB card would fix it up. You
may want to check that power management is not turning off the USB port.
Go to Device Manager and the USB and Mouse properties and Power
Management and uncheck Turn off to save power.

It could be the card is bad, or the connection to it on the PCI slot.
You could try reseating, or moving to different slot.

I would think if it was PSU there would be more serious issues/ obvious
problems when the CD player or DVD player spun up.

well i do have a spare USB card, but it doesn't plug into the PCI slot, it
plugs into my mobo. Will that work?
