Just bought the mobile 2500+ chip. Now I need a motherboard that can
use the Athlon mobile barton. Any Gigabyte boards work with this chip?
or other manufacture. Asus or Abit etc.

bought a Gigabyte GA-7VT600 1394 board, but the chip posts at 600 MHz.
I thought that the Via KT600 would recognize the chip.

The FSB only operates at 100MHz, even when swith is set to 266/333/400
auto. The mobile chip is set at 133 * 14 = 1866 MHz

So something is wrong. Anyone have any Ideas.

thanks

Gary

I just bought a AN35N Ultra 400 to run my 2600+ mobile.
Have it going at 11.5x200.
No frills board, but with 6ch sound, LAN and 6 USB ports.
No firewire or RAID. Newegg has 'em at around $55.

Thats a bit odd.

100MHz FSB * 6 = 600MHz.

14-8 is 6, so it could have the 5th bit of the multiplier wrong, as well as
the FSB.

It would seem strange that the motherboard actually sets the multiplier
wrong - it might detect it wrong, but there are plenty of processors with a
multiplier of 13 or more, so it should "support" a multiplier of 14, even if
it doesn't "report" that multiplier.

Can you confirm that it is actually running at 600MHz rather than 1400MHz?

Also, it's a bit weird that you can't change the FSB.

My personal preference is for a nForce2 motherboard, rather than a VIA based
on. Would seem like a waste of money to not use the KT600 board if you have
one... I would try to get it working. There's no reason, as far as I know,
why a board wouldn't support a mobile chip, if it supports the normal XP,
it's just a case of getting the right FSB and multiplier. Often a board
will report a chip wrong if it doesn;t know that a chip running at 133 * 14
is a Mobile XP 2500, but it will usually give the right multiplier and FSB.

Default for the Mobile Athlon 2500+ is 11x166 same as desktop.

I Have a Mobile 2500+ @ 11.5x200 1.675Vcore stable in a Asus A7N8X Rev 2.0
(Non Deluxe) that is a year old.
Bios used is 1007 from Asus.
Cpu was recgonized as Mobile 2500+ at stock settings.
I think you need to manually set you fsb/multiplier as your board is
defaulting to lowest SAFE settings.
When I first swapped out my 2100+ @ 2200Mhz for this cpu (same board/ram)
My system defaulted to 100mhz FSB.
At 14 with this cpu it reads as a 6x multiplier...
Try 11x133 then 11x166 you should get proper readings.

No it isn't. It's 133x14...

As far as settings I had the wire trick in to get down to 11x for my T'bred
2400+. (default 133x15)
I took it out and dropped in a mobile 2400+ and it booted up at the same
200x11. Running at 200x12 now.

Running stable on a 2600+ mobile at 12x200 @ 1.625 V. I ordered a new PSU,
so I think I can go faster. I have a DFI NF2 UI board.

I am not impressed with the board layout. The fan power pins are all at the
bottom of the board. The CPU is positioned in the top right hand corner,
where I don't think the air flow is as good, so it runs a bit hotter than
the EP 8RDA+.

I put my 2600+ mobile on a Shuttle AN35N. (I don't need all
the bells
and whistles of a higher priced board) I'm just running a
slight overclock
at 11x200 @ 1.5 V, prime 95 stable, idle temp 44C, 49C under
load.
Just put a Thermaletake Volcano 9 on it today to get those
temps. That was a pain...
I had to tremove the PSU to get the HSF on! I plan on taking
this thing further
when I get better memory.. I know for a fact the CPU will do
2500Mhz.
