Opteron is primarily aimed at the server market. The Athlon "FX"
models are for premium desktop performance (such as games) and are
priced quite high. The "normal" Athlon64 models are the
bread-and-butter line which offer good performance and 64-bit support
at more reasonable prices. If you are in the market for a new system,
the Athlon64 3000+ or 3200+ models seem to be the "sweet spot" for
high performance at a reasonable price right now. Just my two cents.

Yeh, but save me from hours of hunting their site. What are the
basic differences between the various incarnations of the AMD 64 bit cpu?
ie: is it cache size? frequency? pipelining?
I'm not looking for too much deep info just an overview, I see lots of
different prices on about 8 variations of the AMD 64 and was wondering what
was different for each one.

Do the "normal" A64's support dual processors?

No. Only Opterons (2XX/8XX models, not 1XX models)
