I'm looking for an NF3-250 or VIA K8T800pro based board in the Toronto
area... no luck yet? Who would have thought that people would have money to
spend in the computer industry and the industry didn't have product... :(

I'd avoid the pro and go with the NF3-250, no contest from the
reviews.

I haven't seen any K8T800 PRO reviews only the K8T800 reviews. The NF3-250
only has a 800mhz HTT and the K8T800pro has 1000mhz HTT so the VIA will be
compatible with future 1000mhz HTT CPU's.

The K8NS PRO is a Nforce 3 250...................

To be honest I'd take either new chipset right now! I have an A64 3100+ and
Thermalright SLK948U sitting here waiting for a motherboard. I must be
getting old... a few years ago I'd have just gone out and bought anything to
get up and running with the new cpu.

Currently the Canadian distributors are holding out on the new motherboards
to dump the obsolete stuff. If only someone shipped to the great white
north without raping us on the shipping.

Reviews between the K8T800 non-pro and pro versions show the 1GHz HTT
provides no performance gain. Every test toms hardware performed showed
no speed difference between HTT speeds of 400MHz, 600MHz, 800MHz and
1GHz. Only the 200MHz speed caused slower benchmark results.

However the pro version allows locking the PCI and AGP bus when
overclocking, so it has one tangeable advantage.

So if I were going VIA I wouldn't get to fussed about getting the
non-pro version. However I would prefer the nForce3 if I were
plonking down my money.

You are correct that the lower HTT speeds appear to have little effect on
performance but I do want the AGP/PCI lock as my 9800pro is very sensitive
to high AGP speeds.

Also the 5x LDT should be helpful for overclocking if you don't have top
quality memory.

Tiger Direct, on Woodbine just south of 7 has the Gigabyte K8N Pro
listed on their Web site for CDN$177. www.tigerdirect.ca

I'm sure ICCT also can get this stuff (generally cheaper than
TigerDirect).

What's your problem, too lazy to look around?

If it is just sitting there why don't you let me have it so I can
upgrade :)

Mike, I don't know if you read the whole thread but I'm looking for a
motherboard with the VIA K8T800pro or NF3-250GB. The board you quoted is a
nVidia nForce3 150 based board... like I said obsolete stuff.

Have you called ICCT to see if they can bring one in for you? Know
exactly what you want before you call them though. I deal with the one
on 14th just off Warden, lowest prices around here.

Also in my experience most internet/mailorder places in the US have
reasonable shipping rates -- go for postal delivery rather than courier
as it is mega cheaper and almost as fast.

I can't imagine having a fast processor like that just sitting on the
shelf. If my old PII 400 would just die then I'd have a reason to
upgrade but it keeps on pluggin' along..

I'll let you borrow my 12 gauge and some shells! :)

My last Intel system was a P2-400, I sure don't miss that POS!

I currently have an Axp @ 2.5ghz so I've got lots of speed currently
but I want to move to the new technolgy and play with htt
overclocking... something new.
