I tried to install USB Wireless network adapter to my XP system
(OFFICECONNECT WIRELESS 11g USB ADAPTER). Not only that I couldn't establish
a connection through that new wireless adapter - I also lost my regular PCI
network adapter - couldn't connect via the PCI adaptor and couldn't set it's
TCP/IP configurations. I uninstalled the TCP/IP and when I tried to
reinstall I got: "The name is already in use as a service name or service
display name".
I installed the latest version of the COM USB Adaptor driver and still I get
this when trying to add TCP/IP to either the PCI and the USB adaptor.
After doing some research I tried removing the services entries for those
adaptor from the registry - but this didn't solve the problem. I even tried
repair installation of XP - without any success.

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks,

You can try downloading "winsockxpfix.exe" from another PC and copy it to a
CD/Usb key. Bring this file over to your "problem" PC and run it. It
should rebuild your TCP/IP protocol stack files.

Thanks for the advice but that didn't help.

It seems that the problem is not in win sock. It has to do with services in
the registry with the same name as the name of the service it is trying to
create when I install TCP/IP. The problem is I don't know what service name
is causing the problem (and how to remove it...).
