I have Windows XP Service Pack 2 machine with two COM ports (COM1 is
built-in and COM2 is an PCI serial card). Every time I try to startup an
application that uses these COM ports I got an erro message indicating that
the port is already open.

There is no other application running in the background. I checked this with
Hyper Terminal and I am still getting the same error message on COM2. I even
used swapped the PCI serial card with a new one and I am still having the
problem. I uninstalled and reinstalled the serial card driver without any
success.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

By the way, even if I change the COM port number (e.g. COM2 to COM8 or COM9)
I am still getting the same error "8005 Port Already Open"
