Can't print at work, but can print at home.....HP 1300

I purchased a new, never opened HP 1300 took it to work, older large
Automobile Service department, and I was not able to have the printer work.
I mean being able to print a test page, w/o the printer ever touching a
computer, and w/o the USB cable connected as well. I brought the printer
back, got a new one, that I tested at Staples, with the same cartridge and
papertray. It worked swell, test page every time. Well, I took it to work
again, and again I was not able to print a test page. I was just trying to
print one time, anything. Even from the computer and the USB cable
connected, nothing worked. I got the upper rollers to run like heck, but
nothing moved on the bottom, the paperfeed roller.. Well, I was real sick at
that time, because I just had my first job at out new IT department go sour
on me. The IT manager came over and tried it, as well as another IT guy,
also no luck. I took the printer home and plugged it into my house, and all
worked fine. Now what could be the culprit here, low electricity, different
paper I used at home? The station that I was replacing the printer for had a
HP 3820 running without a problem, before I installed the new HP 1300, and
when I left I hooked the old HP 3820 back up and all worked fine. What
gremlin's are at work here, any help is really appreciated. BTW, I also only
held in the button to get a test page, together with the on button for 5
seconds, that seems to be the working time for a test page to be generated
everytime at home. I know what happens if you happen to hold the control
panel button down for 15 seconds or more............Peter

If you are sure you are pressing all the right button on the printer......

Perhaps there is a lot of noise on the mains? I've never heard of it being
so bad a s to stop a printer working but you never know.
