I have a bluetooth dongle that has come with a driver CD for Windows XP.
However, when I plug in the dongle, XP automatically installs Microsoft
drivers and the device doesn't work correctly. Is there any way I can
override the automatic installing of drivers for plug and play devices
and manually point it at the drivers on the supplied CD?

Thanks

Colin

Let Windows do its thing and then go to the Device Manager and do a manual update of the drivers
with the CD. Also you could run the setup of the CD before you install and that should give Windows
the correct drivers to use.

Or if your running SP2, find the folder called Sp2.cab & temporarily
rename it to Sp2old.cab.

In case of BT and xp SP2 this is not as trivial as with other USB devices
because SP2 BT drivers bring with them lot of stuff for BT support,
and it stays even you ununstall the BT dongle device.
The best is to follow instructions of the BT dongle vendor,
or call their support.
If not 100% sure what you are doing, never tamper with INF files,
registry and so on.
