Hi all,

I have a problem with my usb ports. Either works fine with my printer. But
neither works with my infrared, mpio fy200 and webcam. My printer goes
offline when I try to plug anyone of them. What will I do?

is it the only way? i suspect that there could be power shortage on the
ports that they cannot initialize the devices i have mentioned. may i ask,
should i also put into consideration the drivers that xp has installed on my
usb ports?

It is a power shortage that's why you need a powered hub. USB ports only
supply 498mA of power per hub. A powered hub will supply 500mA of power per
port. Your camera and that infrared device are high powered devices meaning
they are powered from the USB ports. When the power requirements of all
those devices at once is more then 498mA then you have a problem. You can
check the power requirements of each device in the device manager by
expanding the Universal Serial Bus Controller then right clicking on the USB
root hub>properties>power on that tab you will see the power needed by each
plugged in USB device.
