I have windows xp home edition on my computer and my computer came with a
cd-rom and a dvd-rom. The cd-rom works fine but there is no trace of a
dvd-rom on my computer. When I put a dvd in nothing happens and no error
message or anything. I have Powerdvd a program that came with the computer
and i can install the program but it wont let me install the driver which I
think is what will make the dvd-rom work. I keep on trying everything but
nothing works.

Is it seen in:

BIOS
and/or
Device Manager

If not seen in either, it is either disconnected from power or has died and
gone to DVD drive heaven. At this point in time you might consider getting
a DVD burner to replace it.

First thing: most DVD drives use the standard Microsoft CD/DVD drivers, so
the driver exists already in XP.

Would any chance your computer happened to be a Dell computer? I had a
friend who had the same problem. We tried everything to fix it.
Finally, nothing worked and we called support. They didn't even bother
to give us any specific instructions to fix it. They just told us to
send it in and they will replace it. LOL....
