exaqctly what the topic says

AMD Athlon XP 2600 333 mhz FSB and 512 l2 Cache

I believe the Intel Celeron is as follows

Intel Celeron 2.8 ghz 400 mhz FSB and 128 l2 cache

which one do you think would perform better on an overall basis including
gaming/desktop work and multimedia playback.. DVD's etc.

The new Celeron 335 (2.8GHz) is about equal to an XP 2400+ in some apps.
It falls way behind the AMD in others. The Sempron's ratings are for
direct comparison to Celerons. And a Sempron 2800+ is basically an XP 2400+.
