I really dislike Robin Williams. something about his face just strikes me the wrong way.

He's a goodish actor, but...

I really liked him in Death to Smoochy though. Maybe because he played a crazy villain - those roles fit him, in my mind.

I really liked Mork & Mindy...
Robin went through a few weird phases and there are a few roles I did not like much, but overall he ranks pretty good, imb

Hrm, I've seen a lot of interesting movies, and a lot of them stick out for various reasons. I tend to find, around these parts at least, that it's usually around midnight or so on the weekend, or on Wednesdays, that decent, thought provoking movies get shown.

Some movies I like for the genre, or the action, such as the Star Trek movies and the likes of Hunt for Red October, and others I like for being at the pinnacle of a genre I like - such as A Bridge too Far, which I personally think is one of the best told war stories on the big screen ever. It'd never get made in this day and age simply because of the scope.

Then I've seen eclectic movies, usually in that late-night slot, which don't fit into a genre which I like, but which I enjoyed non the less. For example Telling Lies in America, which if I recall I sat down to just as I was going to go to bed one Saturday, and it kept me captivated all the way through.

For Williams, I like him. I also like when comedic actors, such as Williams and lately Carey, do serious movies, as for some odd reason they seem to do them very well.

Sorry if you're looking for a definitive list, alas I rarely give them... I don't believe in having a top whatever favourites for anything, and always squirm and wiggle whenever I'm asked for one.

Submarine movies are cool because they have their own seperate world a ;little like a space ship.

Star trek and appolo 13 have nostalgia associated with them

I have to give it some more thought to come up with a top3 but it will certainly contain "12 Monkeys".

Despite having action man Bruce Willis in the lead and beautiful boy Brat Pitt in a supporting role (both giving marvelous performances btw), it is a great movie and a superb plot that I yet have to find serious issues with in terms of loose ends, and that for a movie that deals with time travel.

I've yet to be really disappointed by Terry Gilliam but this picture is absolutely gorgious and a must see.

Have you seen it yet, Pike?

If you like British films, then I urge you to check this one out. IMO, the best British film I've seen in a long long time.

Dead Man's Shoes

V for Vendetta?
Picking a recent movie is kinda lame. Seeing something and knowing its good instantly is fine, but often you forget about older movies you like that yuou haven't seen recently.

i am not saying its bad, or whatever....it could be the greatest movie of all time....i was just cautioning you about putting a movie you just saw into the mix of your top 3

Reply to pickxx

Intersting. . . I never thought about the top three

1. MASH
2. Young Frankenstein
3. The Princess Bride

(Honorable Mention: North By Northwest, Pi, Lethal Weapon, Lost Highway, Forrest Gump)

I normally wouldn't, but that movie amazed me.

The combination of story, action, dialogue, acting and the philosphical questions posed was incredible. I didn't know it was possible for a movie to address such important issues and remain entertaining at the same time.

For a normal director i would agree.....but comming from the guy that made 2001, this movie is normal, sane, and well explined

Agree.

For comparison: Dune, Blue Velvet, Lost Highway, Twin Peaks (TV), Fire Walk With Me, Mouholland Drive. . .

A lot of people do not watch older movies. But, I always say, "the truly great can only be quantified in the presense of the truly mediocre" So I watch them if only to have a baseline with which to measure what currently is and what will come.

But if V for Vendetta is his top three? Who are we to judge, really. We will but pity him silently from afar.

So just because it's a movie that just came out, that instantly means I'm lesser than you for ranking it among my top three?

I pity you for being so close minded, sir.

I thought we'd already established that fact. I wouldn't worry about it. You have many peers.
