when i bought my dell i7-920 based computer, it was delivered with the windows 7 home premium version OS.

i am building my first computer as a media center.

will i be able to use the OS that came with my current computer in my new build? if not, does ubuntu have support for media including a DTV tuner card?

any and all responses are appreciated.

The OS is most likely an OEM version, and as such is tied to the motherboard of your current computer, and can not be moved to another build.
If on the other hand you got a full retail version, then you may move it to your new build.

Whether ubuntu have support for your tuner card I'll leave up to others to answer.
