This monitor seems very nice but I'm not familiar with the brand. Dell sells it for $699 and its a tad larger than the Compaq TFT7020 and the overall specs are pretty much the same or better.
I ordered the Compaq TFT7020 for $660 because of educational discount, but if Dell will give me an education discount should I cancel my order with compaq and get this Planar?

It seems nice- that case looks very cool. Hmm, may check out other LCD's- do they offer 15"?

Never mind, they only offer Analog 15" models.

do you think this could be better than the compaq TFT7020?
its got a better viewing angle (160 degrees verticle and horizontal over compaqs 150 and 140), and its a fraction larger (17.4 inchs over 17.1 compaq), and the response time is better too (15ms and 10 ms versus I think 19ms and 6ms compaq which I'm not sure if its better or not)
it also has a cool case with built in USB hub (I probably wouldn't use the hub but its a reselling point) and if dell will give student discount like compaq I can probably get it cheaper than $660. I'm just worried about warranty and brand name.
If you have any info about the reliability of this company I'd like to know.

The rise / fall time specs are nominal, you will never be able to tell the difference.
Planar is a well-respected manufacturer of LCD products. They recently got into the consumer business, prior to that their main market was commercial, and avionics displays.

U know what, screw smal lmonitors- I'm gonna try the Planar one. First off, where does Dell offer the Planar for a student discount? Also, gosharks, is there any way you can take a look at it, or ask someone you know who has seen it what they think of it? How trustable is planar?

I don't know if dell offers a student discount. I simply called Compaq and asked for an educational discount and told them I go to UCF (University of Central Florida) and they didn't really ask if I was an employee or not. I guess call up dell and ask them if they give a student discount. I would cancel my order but I think my TFT7020 has finally been shipped.

I told them I was with UCF and asked what kind of a discount I could get. Eventually I told them I was a student and they didn't care. It now looks as though I won't be recieving my monitor any time soon, I just might call dell tomorrow and see if they will give me a discount just as compaq did, and if they will then I'll probably end up with the Planar instead of Compaq LCD.
Turns out this TFT7020 is very hard to get and has been on back order for ages. You can't even find it in their regular store, you have to look in the small business section to find it.
