ok

setup

Abit NF7 v2.0 motherboard
AMD 2600+ XP barton 333fsb

I have tried in softmenu III to enable to user set CPU permaters I have had
the following permaters

12.5 x 166

i set the vcore to about "1.675"

i had it lower than this on a friends computer yesterday

he has a 2500+ AMD XP

and i got it up to 2800+ speeds anything higher than that it kept setting
itself to 833 mhz for some reason.. he has an MSI motherboard and there was
no utlity like softmenu with abit boards

anyway back to mine, whenever i OC it by changing the multiplier to 12.5

it is currently 11.5

i press F10 save it, screen comes up saying dont power off when bios saves
settings.. then the system boots up, but my monitor doesnt detect a signal

I have a decent PSU Thermaltake 480w Silent Purepower w0010

this CPU should OC no problem to 2 ghz shouldnt it?

but it isnt and i have OC'd other peoples CPU's using lower vcore and stuff,
can anyone tell me where I am going wrong?

I have already updated board BIOS and all bios on every device are up to
date, cant think why the cpu wont overclock past 1.9 ghz

i reckon i should be able to comfortabley get at least 2800+ speeds if a
friend of mine has a 2500+ and is getting 2800+ speeds and mine is a 2600+

whats goin on?

please help me

Thanks,

Chris.

you cant change the multiplier on most XP cpu`s. only on the mobile
versions. if you want to o/c, up the FSB, assuming you have DDR400 ram
(PC3200). if you have only DDR333 (PC2700) your o/c will not get far as your
ram is unlikely to o/c to 400MHz. you should be able to leave the vcore at
standard 1.6v. altering the multiplier will have no effect on the cpu other
than causing the reset you mentioned. with decent ram and a good hsf you may
get 200MHz FSB (2.3GHz).

this doesnt explain how i Oc'd a friends barton 2500+ AP yesterday to 2800+
speeds?

Your friend obviously has one of the early unlocked Bartons. Bartons
prior to week 39, 2003, were all unlocked. After that date all XP's
were/are locked, except the mobile Bartons.

You can if you use the pin mods or bridge mods that you can find on

I have the same configuration like Christo, only my ram is 3200.
My PC shows the same symptoms when OCing. Cannot get past 173 MHz, otherwise not
even a screen.

But why I write: I'm darn sure that I changed the Multiplier on my XP2600+
(that's the barton, right?). ATM I'm running at 12.5x.
And the ship is build somewhen in 2004.

Am I getting something wrong?

It's real easy to tell. With a FSB of 173 and multiplier of 12.5 the cpu
speed should be between 2162 & 2172MHz. Is it? Or is it still under
2000MHz, which would mean the cpu multiplier is locked at 11.5.

The CPU is indeed at 21xx MHz.
Also benchmark goes up.
That's why I'm so sure that my CPU is *not* locked. :)
