I have a number of small, black-and-white, a couple seconds
long MOV-files. Now, the issue is this:

1) how can i view them on my PocketPC (Jornada 548).

I downloaded PocketTV and tried to convert those to MPEG1
using TMPGEnc in order to view them BUT:

2) is it normal that such a file gets to over 1 MB?!

There is almost no change between frames and the size is just
about 150x200 so there's got to be a way of making a normal
MOV-file view on my PDA (either a viewer for MOV - that'd
be the best - or conversion to something humanly large)?

To play mov files you need PictPocket Cinema. However I do not know if it
will run on your old device.

No, it won't. Sadly... The version that i made work only run
AVI-files, not MOV. I find it very strange that there's such
a limited number of options when it comes to viewers...

Here is what I would suggest:

If you do not already have QuickTime Player (the native application for MOV
files) on your system, go to:

www.apple.com/quicktime and download and install the newest QuickTime
Player.

It will playback MOVs, but I don't think there's a version of it for PPC.

HOWEVER--

with QuickTime Pro you can export MOVs to all different formats, including
AVI, and import all different formats as well. It is the same download as QT
Player, but you have to purchase a license online for $29.95, and they will
issue you a key for QT Pro, and when you enter that key # into your free QT
Player, it will become QT Pro.

With that you can open a MOV file, and save it as AVI, choosing from among
any codecs on your system that can be saved to AVI.

That AVI can be played on the PPC with WMP, but I would recommend a much
better new media player, completely free, called Betaplayer
(www.corecodec.com, follow links to Betaplayer.) (I don't think it plays
MOVs either though.)

If you would prefer the WMV format, after you save to AVI with QT Pro, you
could open that AVI with Windows Movie Maker or Windows Media Encoder, and
save to WMV.

to convert MOV (quicktime) to MPEG, please follow the instructions from the
"Simple Guide for making MPEG files optimized for Pocket PC or Smartphone"
at:

http://forum.pocketmovies.net/view [...] =3415#3415

(read the FAQ at the end of this guide)

Then you can play MPEG's with PocketTV Classic (free from www.pockettv.com )
