I'm upgrading to a Barton XP 3200+. It will be running on a Soltek MoBo w/
1GB of PC 3200 RAM.

Could a few, or all, of you take a moment & point me in the direction of one
(some) of the best company(s) & models of fan/heatsink combos I should look
@ getting to keep this cool?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

PS: I don't plan on OC'ing the chip, & I'm not interested in any of the
fancy ideas of water cooling or those other fancy deals, I just don't have
the room @ this time.

Many, MANY thanks,

Jason

Hiya,

Cheap and effective

Better quality. more money,

Any cooler you choose is going to have a degree of efficiency/inefficiency
dependant on how effecient your case ventilation is. IOW if you have poor
flow the best of coolers don't do well when recirculating hot air.
Conversely an inexpensive cooler has the potential to provide awesome
cooling in a well vented case. As you are probably aware, with an XP
processor, have airflow input from the front lower of the case and exhaust
air from the top rear back (fan asssisted, of course.)

Regards,

Garry

PSS: I have INCREDIBLE airflow in my case. Bottom intake & separate top
exhaust.

I have basically your setup....Soltek mobo, Barton 2500 running at 3200
(200fsb), 1gig dual channel PC3200. I use a Vantech Aeroflow. Idle temps are
39C external CPU, 45C internal diode. Under full load it gets 45-46C
external and 50-51C internal diode. I've read about some complaining the
Vantech is noisy, but I don't find it so at all. Not compared to the Volcano
series anyway. My wife's system is identical, and I used a Thermaltake A1838
Silent Boost (only 2500rpm) and it cools the CPU to identical levels. It is
quieter than the 6000rpm Vantech.

This one is cheap, quiet, and will even work good if you overclock some.

I've had 2 or 3 TMD fans fail, and whle they aren't near as noisy as the
volcano series, replacing the tmd fan with a 70-80mm adapter and and a low
speed 80x25mm fan makes a big difference noise wise.
