Hi everyone, i was wondering if someone would be able to make some
suggestions as to which heatsink i should buy for my barton 2600+. It's
currently running at 11x200 so 2200mhz default voltage.

The problem is that i can increase my fsb up to about 221 without problems
until my tem gets too high. i'm currently running the standard amd heatsink
that came with the cpu. i'm looking for something that is under 50 dollars
or so that would allow me to overclock higher. I leave the side of my case
off, i'm using a fairly large case and i'm always in the case so why not
just leave it off :)

I was really looking into the thermalright sp-97 vs si-97. but i'm reaching
out for a little help. :)

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Several good heatsinks that will meet your requirements. I like Thermaltake
units, I've used the heatpipe with no problems for a long time. I also use
a Thermaltake blower with good results on another system.

My reason for responding is that leaving your side case cover off is not
always the best option. The airflow will not be fully controlled. If you
have a good balanced air system with the both intake and exhaust fans
that have proper flow rates then the side cover on would be an advantage.

HTH!

Cheap, quiet, and good. Lowspeed fan can be replaced if you want more
cooling power. Shouldn't need it. $7.99.

A little better. You'll also need a fan.

Thermalright makes some very good coolers, argueably the best, but most
people don't need cooling power anywhere close to this. The TR2-M3 (or -M1
[has leds]) are the absolute best coolers around under $20, and better
than a lot that cost more. there's probably lots of people in this group
using them, ask what they think or look at the reviews for the -M1 on

Then buy this one for $5.99 if you can live without the leds on the
fan. The lights are the only difference.:)

I just put a new heatsink on my xp2500@2.2 and am very happy with it, i saw
a 15 degree decrease in idle temp. The Thermaltake Pipe101 with a 92mm
Silent Cat fan. I do recognize that a 15 degree change points to a poorly
mounted or thermally disconnected heatsink previously but the result is not
only efficient but quiet.

Well, after a little bit of thought again i ordered two of the TR2-M3
heatsinks, i also ordered a 80mm high output fan just incase i need a little
bit more cooling. I'm thinking that with a correctly done application of
artic silver 5 it should work. Even if it doesn't, it was cheap, and it
should be a bit quieterand cooler than my stock heatsinks :)

Thankyou for the suggestions guys, i'll let all of you know how it turns out
for me.

Just to comment a good experience:
I have right now an overclocked XP-M at 2300 Mhz, with one of those
TR2-M3. Running Folding @ Home, 100% load, goes up to 40ºC (Probably
socket sensor, tho). Have it with original fan and a Zalman "fanmate"
regulator, to lower RPMs (just in case I underclock it and run it
silent), fan voltage is 11 so my fan is running at 11/12 of
capability. Conclusion: Great HSF! And for that price!

kjg; thsi is ofr the thstorck fan that is 'better' and not included ..
notice 52.5 dBA ... that is a damn noisy fan ... (added with the other
sisytem fans)
