Thought I'd share this observation on my new Gigabyte K8NS-939's bios in
case it saves any other newbies grief. When I set the memory down to a
slower type so it won't go too fast while overclocking, if the timings are
on auto they become tighter and it hangs. If I set it up not o/c'd and note
the timings it sets on reboot, and freeze them to manual, then slow the
memory, it appears to reset to auto timings if it hangs up on boot. Or maybe
I didn't notice it resetting to auto timings when I slowed it down.
My experiment is slow down the HT, memory, and cpu multiplier to see if I
can reach 300 on the clock. Almost there.
So what I'm saying is, watch out that your bios aren't resetting the memory
timings to too tight when they feel like it.
