Hi,

A frind of mine has and iPaq and the TomTom Car kitt. After having using it
in the car for a while the sound began to grating. Then the sound just
disappeared.

I talked to the salesman and he said that the TomTom car kitt holder has
some magnets which might fu%%¤ up the speaker in the PDA.

I have used my PDA (same model) with my TomTom car kitt holder and have (at
least so far) no problems regarding the sound.

Have any of you guys heard of this problem and should I begin to replace my
holder (with a magnet-free one) ?

TIA

MJ

Which iPAQ is this?
It can well be that the speaker's wires got disconnected
because of vibrations in the car.

iPaq H2210

Maybe your right (but what is the alternative ?) I was just wondering if it
was true what the salesman said (but they rarely are when it comes to PC's)

I can't imagine a magnet in a car holder to cause that
kind of damage to an internal component which already
has it's own magnet.. hence my thinking about vibrations.
have you tried applying gentle pressure around the
speaker on your 2210? (not too hard, mind the screen)
It's not easy to open up these PPC's for something as
small as a speaker. if the device still has warranty
it might be wise to call for service. or, within the
warranty period.. take it back to the store and have it
replaced with a new one.
There is also a place that can take care of repair in
case you don't feel like taking it to HP out of warranty:

Sounds like bull to me, there are no magnets in the TT CarKit (assuming it
is the TomTom one). More likely that a hardware or connector problem has
developed inside the 2210 unconnected to the use of GPS.

I think a saw a picture of the holder somewhere on the internet (showing the
