I currently have 2 512 sticks of 333mhz ram was wondering if there is much point in getting a single 1 gig stick of 400mhz? Im going to get the corsair memory with the heatsinks if i do get some and my current sticks are crucial memory i think. Not sure if its worth it or if i should wait tell next year when i build my new system. Could i overclock the corsair to a higher speed easily?

If you're going to build a new system next year, it is definitely not worth
it to buy 400 MHz RAM now. It will improve your system performance by a
maximum of about 2-5%, if I remember correctly.

That is if you have a matched pair.

I don't think it matters if you have a matched pair or not, depending on the
CPU and motherboard chipset you are using.
I do know that with the AMD Athlon XP CPU, it depends on the motherboard
chipset. If you are using NVidia nForce chipset version 2 or higher that
has 2 memory controllers (some versions of them do not), you can use
different sized memory running at different clock speeds and still get dual
controller performance. You will, however, suffer with all memory running
at the slowest ratted speed of all memory sticks you have installed (I.E. 1
400 and one 333 stick will run all memory at 333).
The newer Athlon 64 CPUs depend on the CPU itself. Don't know any details
beyond that for these.
I don't know anything about the Intel chipsets (I'm an AMD fan myself).

| I had a kt880 and two Corsair Value Selects wouldn't run in dual channel.
| They had different chips on them, though they were both 512mb ddr333.

WOW! I guess then it depends on the chipsets on the sticks of memory. Did
you get the to work together at all on the same PC?

Yes, it ran them in single channel mode.
Since then I always buy dual-channel kits. And if I'll need 4 sticks, I'll
get 2 dual-channel kits all at once so they're from the same batch.
