I am having a problem with my dad's computer and was wondering if anyone has
experienced the same and/or have any ideas?
The fault:
Intermittent fault when turning the PC on. Sometimes it starts up first
time, monitor comes on and it boots o.k. Other times it powers up but I get
nothing on the screen and the computer freezes and fails to boot. Once on
(after between one and ten attempts) and booted the computer works fine, no
conflicts, all the latest drivers etc and all temperatures and voltages on
the motherboards are fine. The fault occurs regardless of whether or not the
computer has just been on. I was initially thinking a monitor problem but
the computer fails to boot (It should continue to boot regardless of whether
or not a monitor is attached. Correct? )This leaves a power issue but I have
tried running the monitor from the computer and from its own separate power
source but the fault still occurs.
Motherboard: ASUS A7A266 ACPI BIOS REVISION 1004
Memory: 512MB DDR PC2100
Graphics Card: SILURO GF4 TI4200-8X 128MB
Operating System: WINDOWS XP SP1
Now apparently this fault did not occur before I updated the memory and
graphics card from below:
Memory: 128MB SDRAM
Graphics Card: HERCULES PROPHET 32MB
Any ideas greatfully received.
thanks
